I've been writing for a living for several years now, and it is absolutely The Way To Live. Being one's own boss is great, particularly when you've got a boss like me - I tend to be lenient, indulgent, and well-liked by my employee. In fact, some days I'll just all of the sudden say, "You know, Felber, you've been slaving away for hours now - Why don't you take the rest of the day off, grab a burger and go sit in the park for awhile? Kick back - you deserve it." I'm like that.
But at other times I can be quite the taskmaster, which has allowed me to:
*Write several episodes of PBS' "Wishbone."
*Serve as Story Editor / Staff Writer on Nickelodeon's "Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss."
*Recently complete my first feature screenplay (yes, there is actually Industry Interest in it!). Update! The screenplay is sold and currently "in development at Paramount/MTV Films!
*Create and write the pilot episode of a Hip New Sitcom (no, there is actually no Industry Interest in it (yet)).
*Finish my first novel (2002)
Unlike everyone else, I don't secretly "really want to direct." But I may eventually have to, unless I find a completely creative, brilliant, competent director who will do exactly what I want, to the letter. The problem with such people is that they tend not to exist.
